As some of you know, a couple of weeks ago I started DrawMohammedWeek. It was never intended to be a fulltime blog, and I only did it so I could be naughtier than I am at my primary blog, and could put up more here on something I started blogging about back in the fall - without boring the good folks who come to my other site on a regular basis.

DMW is going into War Reserve status (Type 1000).

Before I leave it in preservation (honestly, I thought it was going to be a one time funny), I want to share something interesting. I already ID'd my favorite reader, but I also found it interesting who was actively looking to be offended. I took a snapshot from StatCounter of my last 100 viewers today. Nothing special or unique about the sample. I just picked it. 42% of those 100 came from majority Muslim countries. Turkey (always in the top-2 during the last couple of weeks), Egypt, Syria, Indonesia, Iran, UAE, and Pakistan. Oh, you name it; on any given day they have been there. Look at the map at the bottom for the distro in a larger grouping.

So, toodles to DHM...for now, I am sure the fellows Reginald is talking about will force me to bring it back. Until then, everyone join in the cheering. In summary. Some people protesteth too much. I'm talking to you 41%

Now that Iran has cut commercial ties with cartoon producer Denmark, Iranian ideologues are marching into bakeries in an attack on the humble "Danish" pastry. Elsewhere protests against the Muhammad caricatures continued.

"One Danish please!" Easy to say in any language and the resulting pastry is almost invariably pleasing. Say it in Iran these days though and you're likely to get a hostile stare. Danishes -- quite popular in the country -- have been stricken from menus and product lists across the country. Instead, should customers want a pastry formerly known as a Danish, they must order a "Gul-e-Muhammmadi" -- or "Rose of Muhammad."

Europe's elites start surrender negotiations

Notice that I said "elites" above. The average European is not of a bent to surrender their right to a free press. Both elected and unelected, EUopeans are trying very hard to find someone to wave the white flag at.

They want to surrender their press and speech freedoms EU wide:

By agreeing to a charter, "the press will give the Muslim world the message: we are aware of the consequences of exercising the right of free expression, we can and we are ready to self-regulate that right," he said.

Sweden is shutting down websites.

The Swedish government has moved to shut down the website of a far-right political party's newspaper over cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

The site's host, Levonline, pulled the plug on the website of the Swedish Democrats' SD-Kuriren newspaper after consulting with the government.

It is believed to be the first time a Western government has intervened to block a publication in the growing row.

Swedish Foreign Minister Laila Freivalds described Kuriren's move as "a provocation" by "a small group of extremists".

Don't worry Laila, they will cut off you head last. Just try to find their site.

Things are not much better here in the States. A couple of quotes from Diana West's must read article (more Dhimmitude teaching, natch).

"Readers were well served... without publishing the cartoons," said a Wall Street Journal spokesman. "CNN has chosen to not show the cartoons in respect for Islam," reported the cable network. On behalf of the BBC, which did show some of the cartoons on the air, a news editor subsequently apologized, adding: "We've taken a decision not to go further... in order not to gratuitously offend the significant number" of Muslim viewers worldwide. Left unmentioned is the understanding (editorial judgement?) that "gratuitous offense" leads to gratuitous violence. Hence, fear — not the inspiration of tolerance but of capitulation — and a condition of dhimmitude.

How far does it go? Worth noting, for example, is that on the BBC Web site, a religion page about Islam presents the angels and revelations of Islamic belief as historical fact, rather than spiritual conjecture (as is the case with its Christianity Web page); plus, it follows every mention of Mohammed with "(pbuh)," which means "peace be upon him"—"as if," writes Will Wyatt, former BBC chief executive, in a letter to the Times of London, "the corporation itself were Muslim."

So, how do you say solidarity in Danish? If we don't find out now, our future is more dhimmitude.

Europe has a long history of giving in to aggressive, angry cultures and armies. They also have a history of the people being sold out by their rulers. This time, though, something tells me that the people won't let them. I hope so. America can only absorb so many refugees, you know.

French Left join the barricades

Hey, I never thought I would join Parisian French Leftists on any barricade - but I'll take them in this battle. While the press in my country is sitting there, quivering in the corner - the French Leftist satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo is publishing all 12, and one extra on the cover. Took awhile to find, but No Pasaran has the picture of the cover above left! (It translates to " "It's hard to be loved by fools".")Denmark has a few frends in the Cartoon Kerfuffle of Mohammed Madness.

In 2002, the French publication Charlie Hebdo ran this panel by cartoonist Cabu. The sign translates as "Election of Miss Sack-of-Potatoes, organized by Mohammed," who says "I choose the Beauty of Fontenay!" while drinking and smoking. His words contain a French pun: "Belle-de-Fontenay" is a well-known type of French potato, originally from the Parisian suburb of Fontenay-sous-Bois which later saw unrest from Muslim immigrants during the riots of 2005.

Yes, ohhhh yes. Tom Paine over at SilentRunning is right. The TwoPercentClub is, in a word, "Impressive." (warning - potty mouth).

Just because you harbor an irrational, delusional, all-consuming belief in some fucking imaginary god and his sidekick doesn't give you the right to impose that belief on others, and threaten violence and death against those who disagree with your brand of insanity. Not to mention the incredible blend of egocentricity and stupidity necessary to condemn a cartoon as something that doesn't properly respect the rights of others, then to show your displeasure by fucking firebombing a building. Think of the balls it takes for a person whose defining characteristic is raving intolerance to demand not only universal tolerance but ultimate respect from all people under threat of death. Does anyone really think that our world wouldn't be better off without these assholes?

Hey lookie what I found - a Dane before they became all popular! We should all be like Abu Jahl (translates as Father of Folly, Lies, Ignorance...whatever) - he was ahead of his time.

Lets all Quote the Koran, Q'u'o'r'n... however we spell it.

"If I see Muhammad praying at the Ka'ba, I will tread on his neck." When the Prophet heard of that, he said, "If he does so, the Angels will snatch him away." (Sahih Bukhari 6.482)

Abu Jahl was sitting with some of his companions. One of them said to the others, "Who amongst you will bring the abdominal contents (intestines, etc.) of a camel of Bani so and so and put it on the back of Muhammad, when he prostrates?" The most unfortunate of them got up and brought it. He waited till the Prophet prostrated and then placed it on his back between his shoulders. "I am Sad." Abu Jahl said, "Are you circumambulating the Ka'ba safely although you have given refuge to Muhammad and his companions?" Sad said, "Yes," and they started quarreling. Umaiya said to Sad, "Don't shout at Abi-l-Hakam (i.e. Abu Jahl), for he is chief of the valley (of Mecca)." Sad then said (to Abu Jahl). 'By Allah, if you prevent me from performing the Tawaf of the Ka'ba, I will spoil your trade with Sham." Umaiya kept on saying to Sad, "Don't raise your voice." and kept on taking hold of him. Sad became furious and said, (to Umaiya), "Be away from me, for I have heard Muhammad saying that he will kill you." Umaiiya said, "Will he kill me?" Sad said, "Yes." Umaiya said, "By Allah! When Muhammad says a thing, he never tells a lie." Umaiya went to his wife and said to her, "Do you know what my brother from Yathrib (i.e. Medina) has said to me?" She said, "What has he said?" He said, "He claims that he has heard Muhammad claiming that he will kill me."
She said, "By Allah! Muhammad never tells a lie." So when the infidels started to proceed for Badr (Battle) and declared war (against the Muslims), his wife said to him, "Don't you remember what your brother from Yathrib told you?" Umaiya decided not to go but Abu Jahl said to him, "You are from the nobles of the valley of Mecca), so you should accompany us for a day or two." He went with them and thus Allah got him killed. (Sahih Bukhari 4.826. also Sahih Bukhari 5.286, Sahih Bukhari 5.297)

The two boys were Muadh bin 'Afra and Muadh bin Amr bin Al-Jamuh. (Sahih Bukhari 4.369).

In an editorial printed alongside the cartoons, editor in chief Jihad Momani wrote: "Muslims of the world, be reasonable."

Momani told AFP that he chose to print the cartoons "so people know what they are protesting about ... People are attacking drawings that they have not even seen."

Brussels Journal reports on some EuroSpine.

“I understand that Muslims feel shocked because of depictions of the prophet. They have the right to, but they cannot force others to have the same opinion. It is not up to them to judge what a newspaper in a non-Muslim country should publish,” Ménard said. He added that Denmark is greater for not accepting a compromise.

Michael Konken, the chairman of the German Journalists Association DJV, agrees. He corrected his own spokesman who had previously claimed that the republishing of the cartoons by two German newspapers, Die Welt and Berliner Zeitung, violated good journalism. “Nothing can justify threats by Islamists to murder Danish journalists,” Konken said at a press meeting yesterday, arguing that freedom of expression was one of the pillars of democracy. The editor of Die Welt, Roger Köppel, said that he considered it “his duty as a journalist” to publish six of the twelve cartoons to show readers what the dispute was about.

SPIEGEL ONLINE spoke with best-selling Dutch author Leon de Winter about minority problems there. It is a good perspective on why an "American" perspective is not quite the right way to look at what is going on there.

De Winter: Yes, the problems began when the first guest workers arrived in Holland -- as soon as we let people from the third world come here to work in our rich country, we had a guilt complex and somehow saw them as sacred victims. We then let them bring their wives and children over without having any clue that we were importing integration problems with which we had no experience.

SPIEGEL ONLINE: So are you saying that the Netherlands, famous for its tolerance, is not a melting pot for immigrants?

De Winter:No, that's the United States. A social welfare state like the Netherlands can never be a country of integration. Only a country like the US, with its weak social net, can integrate large groups of immigrants without problems. Immigrants there are forced to take two or three badly paid jobs just to survive. That would be incompatible with European moral values. But after one or two generations in the US, these people are integrated in society.

On the sad news side - Dr. Rusty Shackleford reports on the RoP's in the UK, not quite getting with the program of freedom.

British Muslims honest enough to tell us what Muhammed and his followers did to those who blasphemed: killed them. Funny, I don't recall reading any stories of the Buddha killing the Hindu Brahmans who scorned him, nor do I recall stories of Jesus murdering the Pharasees. I thought all religions were basically the same?

...and Michelle is having trouble finding any balls made in the USA.

I have contacted several newspaper op-ed editors urging them to run the Danish forbidden cartoons along with my column this week.

So far, all have declined.

Now, via a tip from Sissy Willis, I learn that the Los Angeles Times (of all papers!) is planning to run the cartoons this weekend.

Let's end on a good note though.

France Soir's editor, Jacques Lefranc, was dismissed by the paper's French-Egyptian owner in response to criticism from Muslim groups.

But journalists at France Soir stood by their editor's decision on Thursday, printing a front page picture and editorial in which they strongly defended the right to free speech.

The man named to replace Mr Lefranc in an interim role, Eric Fauveau, said he could not take up the post and also resigned as director general of Presse Alliance, France Soir's publishing group.

Mr Fauveau called the dismissal of Mr Lefranc "inopportune".

Vive la France - when it shows up.

Well, so much for the "French" part of yesterday's post.

France Soir originally said it had published the images in full to show "religious dogma" had no place in a secular society.

But late on Wednesday its owner, Raymond Lakah, said he had removed managing editor Jacques Lefranc "as a powerful sign of respect for the intimate beliefs and convictions of every individual".

Ah ha. There is a little tid-bit here. Note the last name of the sacked editor. Yep, that is French. Note the last name of the owner. Yep that is Arabic. Egyptian to be exact. Looks like some are French, some just have a French passport. Where are the barricades?

An embarrassment of riches!

Praise Buddah! Dander is getting up all over the place. The “A-Team” is all over the story today; Michelle Malkin is naming names, The Jawa Report is leading from the front as always, The Commissar is asking where the BloggerBalls are at, LGF, and even working stiffs like DreadPundit.

EuroSpines are starting to form. After their half-attempt at dhimmitude by some of the weaker Danes, the rest of the Euro’s are realizing that they are being bullied into giving up their freedoms. They came out swinging today! The honor roll here belong to, Jyllands-Posten (started it all), papers in Italy, Germany, Spain, France, CNN is nibbling in the right direction, Der Spiegel though wins for this.

In Germany and the rest of free Europe, one likes to talk about the necessity of learning from the past, of helping newcomers to the democratic club and of supporting stable democracies. Over sixty years after the end of the Nazi regime, everyone is determined not to let such a group rise to power again.

But the reality is that our real options when confronted with such a force are somewhat modest. A dozen faux-Nazis being elected to the Saxony state parliament was enough to plunge the established parties into frenetic helplessness. The late German television personality Johannes Gross -- a political conservative who possessed an acute sense of history -- once said: "The resistance to Hitler and his kind will only grow the further the Third Reich recedes into the past."

One shudders to imagine how the political classes would react if the country were threatened -- from the right or the left -- by a real totalitarian movement.

What one can and must consider, however, is the reaction within Germany if a mainstream daily paper -- like the Frankfurter Rundschau or the Süddeutsche Zeitung, for example -- were to print a dozen or so caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in much the same way as such caricatures of Jesus, the Pope or other religious figures are published all the time. One only has to take a quick glance over Germany's northern border into Denmark, where Jyllands Posten allowed itself just such caricatures four months ago. A storm of indignation has been raging in the Muslim world since -- as though a second Abu Ghraib had been discovered in a suburb of Copenhagen.

I am still waiting for the official “Draw Mohammed Week” to be declared by the wooden shoe artists.

Brussels Journal, via de Volksdrant, has a great idea.

In an article in the Amsterdam newspaper De Volkskrant today Dutch cartoonists admit that they do not depict Muhammad out of fear for violent retaliations. “It is a kind of self-censorship,” Stefan Verwey admits. “I have large windows and would rather keep them intact,” says Peter de Wit, while Joep Bertrams concedes. “It causes a lot of problems. Why throw oil on the fire?”

Other cartoonists, however, who have asked to remain anonimous(sic), think that Western artist should not allow themselves to be intimidated and propose an international “Draw Muhammad Week.”
